MN-China Trade History

In 1883, Minnesota railroad magnate James J. Hill completed the rail way between Minnesota and the West Coast, which he envisioned as opening exciting trade opportunities with China. He erected an arched pagoda in St. Paul more than 100 years ago honoring his railroad as the "connecting link between China and St. Paul."

Professor Richard Bohr, as former representative of MN-China Trade board, will lead us into this dramatic and exicting historical journey with his experience and knowledge.

He will introduce to us that how Minnesota becomes the eighth-largest U.S. exporter of manufactured goods to China. Minnesota's manufactured exports to China increased 71 percent over 2004, making China the state's third-largest export market ($1.2 billion). Coupled with agricultural commodities, trade with China is becoming an increasingly important source of economic growth for Minnesota.
