Dr. Richard Bohr
Professor/Director of Asian Studies

Richard Bohr, Ph.D., is a history professor and the Director of Asian Studies at the College of Saint Benedict andSaint John's University in Minnesota. He writes, speaks, and consults on U.S.-China relations and interculturalcommunications. He appears regularly on Minnesota Public Radio and has done China-related documentary andcommentary for PBS Television, including The News Hour with Jim Lehrer and Religion and Ethics News Weekly.Since 1980, he has organized and led study tours of China for students, faculty, and business people and is nowdeveloping an interdisciplinary course on doing business with China.
During 1991-1992, Bohr was the Director of Padilla Speer Beardsley International, responsible for developingprograms and services in intercultural communication with Asia. In 1988-91, he served as the Deputy Commissionerof the Minnesota Department of Trade and Economic Development and the Executive Director of the MinnesotaTrade Office, the state's international business promotion agency. From 1980 to 1987, Bohr was the President andExecutive Director of the non-profit Midwest China Center, a coalition of several dozen colleges/universities,foundations, and corporations as well as civic, religious, community, and arts organizations. He developedinnovative services and programs which resulted in a significant expansion of many sided relationships betweenthe American Midwest and China. During 1979-1980, Bohr was the Assistant Professor of Asian History at OhioWesleyan University, where he taught courses on East-West interaction. He taught at Diocesan Boys School inHong Kong during the early 1970's.
Bohr is the founding board chair of NEO Business College for Women in Tokyo and is the current Board Chairof ASIA Network, a coalition of 165 U.S. liberal arts colleges which maintain Asian Studies programs. He is afounding board member of the Orville and Jane Freeman Center of International Economic Policy at the HubertH. Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs of the University of Minnesota; International Trade Program at theCarlson School of Management, University of Minnesota; and Hospitality Center for Chinese. He is a member ofthe Association for Asian Studies; National Committee on United States-China Relations; Minneapolis-St. PaulCommittee on Foreign Relations; Minnesota Foreign Affairs Advisory Committee; Society of International BusinessFellows; and Minnesota International Center. He also advises the state of Minnesota on its trade and investmentstrategies in China and has served on the steering committee of the "Making the Global Local" project, funded bythe Ford Foundation. In addition to numerous publications on China's monumental Taiping Rebellion (1851-64),Bohr is the author of Famine in China and the Missionary: Timothy Richard as Advocate of National Reform, 1876-1884 (Harvard University Press, 1972) and Religion in the People's Republic of China: The Limits of Reform (TheChina Council of the Asian Society, 1982). He is also an editor of Midwest USA/China Resource Guide (MidwestChina Center and Minnesota World Trade Center, 1987). He has published many articles on U.S.-China relations inprofessional journals and the popular press. He sits on the editorial board of the International Policy Review and isediting a forthcoming issue entitled "Is China Growing Too Fast?"
Bohr holds a Ph.D. in Modern Chinese History from the University of California, Davis; an M.A. in East AsianStudies and M.Div. degrees from Harvard University; and a B.A. degree, summa cum laude, in East Asian Historyfrom the University of California, Davis. His wife, Gail Chang Bohr, is the Executive Director of the Children's LawCenter of Minnesota. They have two children.

Warren has extensive corporate and consulting experience including start-up leadership, marketing, changemanagement and business development. His newest venture is American Authentic, which exports into the Asianluxury market. He serves as president of the U.S. – China Business Connection organization; is CEO of The ROIGroup, a management consulting company formed after leaving 3M to help small and new businesses start up andprosper; and EVP and co-owner of Biclite USA, an LED lighting distributor and manufacturer. At 3M he workedat what could only be called a “corporate skunk works”. His job was to analyze new-to-the-world product concepts,and if they met criteria set, to begin commercialization. Products included lithium polymer batteries for electric andhybrid vehicles, superconductive tape, visco-elastic dampers, separation technologies for biotech and radioactiveelements, metal matrix composites and even floating concrete. He also was a key member of the small changemanagement team consolidating all industrial sales and marketing operations at 3M.
Warren has taught as an Adjunct Professor in the Communication Master Degree program at the University of St.Thomas.; and is a member of numerous professional organizations. He also is a retired Lieutenant Colonel, Armor,from the US Army.

James Baldus

James Baldus is an implementation consultant in Kenexa, an IBM Company. He is based in New York and consultsmany of the world's largest organizations regarding recruitment technology and strategy. For the last few years,James has worked intimately with clients in China to develop strategies for attracting, retaining, and developing toptalent. He is very knowledgeable of the trends in the rapidly-evolving Chinese labor market and how this impactsever-changing economy. Mandarin is the only Chinese dialect James can competently speak.

Joe Rogers
Director of the Center for Global Education CSB/SJU
Joe Rogers became the inaugural director of the Center for Global Education in November of 2010. He previouslyserved as Director of the Office for Education Abroad at CSB/SJU for three years. Rogers is a 1989 graduate ofSaint John's University and was a participant in CSB/SJU's study abroad program in London. He received his M.A.in East Asian Studies at the University of Minnesota in 1993, after spending significant time studying, working andtraveling in East Asia. Rogers graduated with honors from the University of Minnesota Law School in 1998, wherehe served as Note and Comment Editor for The Journal of Global Trade and as a mentor for international lawyers inthe Law School's International L.L.M. program.
After spending six years as a lawyer in private practice, Rogers returned to CSB/SJU to work with the Asian StudiesProgram. In this capacity, he promoted student opportunities, study abroad and exchange programs in Asia and ledthe May Term program to South China in 2006.

Min (Amy) S. Xu

Amy Xu, a partner (now Of Counsel) in the patent and technology group, with 20+ years of substantialexperience in the field of electronics, telecommunication, computer systems, and medical devices, andwith practice in patent prosecution, licensing, acquisition, and litigation in U.S. nearly 20 years. Ms. Xualso bring clients insider's knowledge of IP enforcement in China, International Trade Commission (ITC)in D.C., U.S. federal circuit courts, and U.S.-China boarder and customs in terms of unfair trade disputesand violation of Intellectual Property rights.
Ms. Xu has successfully represented Orbital Technologies Corporation before the U.S. federal court ina patent infringement case, Department 56 before U.S. and China boarders and customs in copyrightinfringement cases, and ADC Telecommunication in a trademark infringement and licensing agreementdispute in China, to name a few.
Ms. Xu worked for numerous patent prosecution clients including Huawei Technologies, MicroPortMedical, Wuhu Token Science, Nokia, ADC Telecommunications, Sproqit Technologies, IBM, MayoClinic, Liteon, as well as chip makers such as Intel, AMD, and Micron.
Ms. Xu also advised clients (importers/exporters) on U.S. Governor's trade mission delegations to Chinain 2002, 2005, and 2010 and participated in the World Intellectual Property Congress in 2009, spokeat the International IP symposium in Shanghai, China in early 2000s, spoke at the United Nation IPconference in China in late 1990s, and other various international conventions and committees involvingreview of IP treaties and trade agreements.
Ms. Xu is also an author on U.S.-China intellectual property protection and enforcement, a reviewer onpatent treaties including MOY'S WALKER ON PATENTS, and a member of the Board of Trustees ofWilliam Mitchell College of Law.

Sijie Cheung
Financial Analyst

Sijie is a first year analyst of the Finance Development Program at Ecolab, where she focuses on thefinance side of HR Benefits. She manages Ecolab 401k participants’ accounts and prepares monthlypayments to all the benefit vendors. Sijie graduated with BS in finance and accounting from CarlsonSchool of Management, University of Minnesota. In college, apart from interning at Ecolab, she was ananalyst for the Carlson Funds Enterprise, teaming with MBAs and a select group of seniors in running an18 million small-cap growth fund. She also completed a brief stint with Best Buy Capital, supporting theventure capital group in analyzing start-ups for seed and first-round investments. After graduation, sheremains active in the Carlson community by recruiting for Ecolab on campus and helping internationalstudents with job search.

Clement Dai Huaweilang
Marketing Analyst

Clement is a Marketing Analyst, focusing on China Medical Market at Minnesota Rubber & Plastics,Quadion LLC. Prior to this position, he was at the Kissinger Institute on China and the United States,and China Environment Forum at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars, a D.C.-based think tank. At the Kissinger Institute, Clement was in the office of Ambassador Stape Roy. At theChina Environment Forum, he researched on Mongolia Mining Boom, and U.S.-China Clean EnergyCollaboration. Through these work, Clement closely worked with and received delegations from bothgovernment and non-government organizations including the State Council of China (Guowuyuan), theU.S. Department of State, the World Wildlife Fund and so forth.
While in college, Clement did numerous internships across industries, including Citibank, U.S.-ChinaProgram-American Council on Renewable Energy and many others. At Saint John's University, Clementwas a Brandl Scholar for Public Policy, and Fruth Scholar for Economics.
Clement is active in the non-profit world; recently, Clement was elected as Vice President of Membershipat the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society-Twin Cities (2012-), he is Co-founding President of Minnesota-China Business Opportunity Conference (2009-), and Co-founder of Cherish Sunshine Charity whichis dedicated in connecting urban and rural education in China(2008-). Clement received his BA inEconomics from Saint John's University. He graduated Phi Beta Kappa and Magna Cum Laude.

Tu Tran

Marketing Internship
Tu Tran is a senior business management major and entrepreneurial studies scholar. She is a part of the E-Scholars program in which she and her partner founded Bare LLC, a retailer of fashionable scarves andaccessories. The idea for Bare came from her time spent in Hong Kong summer of 2012 in which sheconducted a marketing internship with Frenzoo, a mobile app fashion game developer.
As the only one of two internships at Frenzoo, she ventured out into Hong Kong's professional fashionindustry and mingled with bloggers, photographers, media and production companies to introduceFrenzoo's MeGirl brand into the Hong Kong fashion scene.
